From Kevin Benoit’s list of free sources of investors:
𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘀 & 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝘀:
• AngelList — Best for syndicates and early-stage discovery. Data quality varies.
• Angel Capital Association — High-signal directory for US angel groups by region.
• Gust — Structured matching to angel groups. Feels more "application" than search.
• AngelMatch — Quick geography-based angel filtering. Best data may be gated.
• AngelSearch — Large index for broad top-of-funnel. Verify who's actually active.
𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗩𝗖 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀:
• Signal by NFX — Free tool to find relevant investors and map warm intro paths.
• NVCA Member List — Baseline universe of institutional US VCs. Not every micro-fund.
• VC Sheet — Founder-oriented context on who's helpful and how to approach.
• Investor Hunt — Good for pre-seed/seed list building. Contact details are paid.
𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀:
• SEC IAPD — Official source for RIA filings. Useful for diligence on family offices operating as advisers. Not built for "investor search," but powerful if you know what you're looking for.
𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲:
• Crunchbase — Great for mapping "who invested in what." Advanced filters are paid.
• Dealroom — Strong for ecosystem discovery by geography/sector. Free tier is capped.
• OpenVC — Free fundraising platform with angels, VCs, and family offices.
• Mercury Investor Database — Easy list-building. Validate stage focus elsewhere.
• F6S — Good for accelerators and early-stage deal flow. Less database-centric.
